Use Of Was & Were, was vs were

These words, “Was-Were” show the presence of something or a person in the sentence of past.

Use Of WAS & WERE

Was & Were Definition:

These verbs are called “Helping verbs”.

Use Of WAS

He – She – It –I- This – That - Singular Noun 

ONE Person or Thing, etc

I was in school.

Use Of WERE

If subjects are ,WE, You, They, These, Those and  Plural Nouns, then used “Were”.

MORE THAN ONE - - - Person – Thing ,  etc 

They were in school.

Helping Verb “Was” and “Were” Examples 

میں سکول میں تھا۔

I was in school.

وہ سکول میں تھے۔

They were in school.

Negative Sentence of Was and Were:

To make negative sentence , add “NOT” after helping verb (Was-Were).

میں سکول میں نہیں تھا۔

I was not in school.

وہ سکول میں نہیں تھے۔

They were not in school.

Interrogative Sentence of Was and Were:

We write helping verb (Was-Were) in the beginning of the sentence and put a question mark (?) at the end.

کیا میں سکول میں تھا؟

Was I in school?

کیا وہ سکول میں تھے؟

Were they in school?

میں سکول میں تھا۔

I was in school.

وہ کتابیں پڑھ رہے تھے۔ 

They were reading books.

اساتذہ بہت محنتی تھے۔  

The teachers were very hardworking.
